The Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple is situated along Burma Lane in Pulau Tikus and was founded on 1st August 1803, the temple was known as "Nandy Moloh Burmese Temple" then. This place of public worship was purchased by Nonya Betong from George Layton, granted by Sir George Leith Baronet, LT. Governer of Prince of Wales Island, for 390 Spanish Dollars and donated to the temple.

Here you will find the Buddha Idol is standing ...& one in the International Shrine Hall is the Largest Here!!!

Wat Chayamangkalaram is a Siamese temple which was officially given its site by Queen Victoria in 1845. It was presented by Mr. W.L. Butterworth of the East India Company of Penang on July 22, 1845.

Admission to the Wat Chayamangkalaram temple is Free

The Rules for the Visitors!!

visitors must take off their shoes.

The reclining Buddha
This Thai architecture houses a 180-foot gold-plated statue of the reclining Buddha, Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul - said to be one of the longest in the world. The reclining Buddha represents Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul, the historical Buddha, at his death. This symbolizes complete peace and detachment from the world.
SLEEPING BUDDHA
In the reclining position, Buddha lies on its right side with its head resting in the palm of its right hand to the North. He sleeps by turning His body to the right side and placing His left leg put over the right one. This position on the couch symbolizes the Mahaparinirvana (Enlighthenment or achieving Nirwana) of the Buddha which took place at Kushinagara (Uttar Pradesh, India). A peaceful half-smile gracing its serene face.

This gorgeous traditional Thai temple complex also consists of other smaller shrines of Buddhas and popular Thai deities. On the fantastically ornate temple grounds the visitors can see many beautifully carved and lavishly colored statues of Devas and other mythical creatures.
The floor of the temple is laid with tiles of lotus patterns – a powerful symbol in Buddhism.

Behind the temple is a small Thai village and a Thai cemetery.

FORT CORNWALLIS Bringing history to life!

One of my destination today in Penang   is a must visit destination while  your are in Penang. This place is open daily from 9 am-7pm & currently the ticket fare is RM 2/Adult & RM1/Children.
FORT CORNWALLIS

Fort Cornwallis at Glance
it was built on the site where Sir Francis Light made his historic landing in 1786.or more popularly known as the Esplanade. It was named after the Governor-General in Bengal-Charles Cornwallis, and was one of the first few European Structures constructed here. The star-shaped fort was just a simple stockade made out of nibong palm trunks in the beginning, before it was reconstructed using bricks at a cost of 67,000 Spanish Dollars then in 1793.
FORT CORNWALLIS ENTRANCE.

The Fort ,used as military and administrative base of the British East India Company, was built to protect the island from possible onslaught launched by Frenchmen. However,no battle has ever taken place at the Fort, not even during the Japanese invasion in the 1940s.

Today, the Fort is considered an important landmark and a must visit tourist attraction in Penang.Among the existing relics which are full of historic colours and remain intact are the military barracks, room for the storage of gunpowder magazine, a christian Chapel,a Lighthouse, several cannons including the "infamous" Sri Rambai and cell Rooms.

Francis Light's Statue
FRANCIS LIGHT
The legendary Fort Cornwallis is one of the few legacies left behind by Sir Francis Light that remains intact after more than two centuries. It is therefore no surprise when the bronze statue of Francis Light was placed at the entrance overlooking the fort.

SRI RAMBAI CANNON
IN 1880,the Sri Rambai cannon was found in the straits of Malacca. It was lifted out & placed at The North-west bastion of the Fort Cornwallis.Local folklore even believed that women who were infertile would be able to conceive by placing flowers in the cannon barrel as form of special prayers!!

THE CHAPEL

The  Christian chapel is one of the earliest roofed structures in Penang, built in 1799 ,Located on the landward side of the fort ,the 1st ever recorded service taking place was the marriage of Sir Francis Light's widow(after he died)..Martina Rozells and John Trimmers in the same year. The old chapel of a triangular shaped roof remains intact until today at the south-west corner of the Fort.
