BORNEO HORBILL FESTIVAL 2010-KUMANG GAWAI BEAUTY PAGEANT

 This is Sarawak Ethic Beauty Pageant  during Hornbill Festival  2010 organised by Warisan Sarawak Kuala Lumpur.(24 JULY 2010) at Malaysia Tourist Centre,MTC Jalan Ampang,Kuala Lumpur.
The beauty contest consist of 3 categories divided by ethnicity of the contestant.

1) KUMANG IBAN 

2) KUMANG BIDAYUH 

3) KELIGIT ORANG ULU

Normally,this even was organizing  every year,at Sarawak Borneo during the Harvesting Festival,
'Kumang Gawai' (literally Harvest Festival Beauty Queen).

In the ancient days, it was believed that Kumang possessed the mystical power and it was said that she's the fairest maiden that she had captured the heart of the prince, 'Keling'.  Kumang was every man's dream, she's a domestic Goddess too.  She can weave the 'Pua Kumbu' and she was able to handle the house chores and it is every parents dream that their girls will possess Kumang's good qualities.
