Home away from home!!!
Today is my 7 days in Vung Tau City .In fact, never heard about this place before i come here( 1 month before i get an information from GOOGLE) .
How time flies ??
I have been to Vietnam few years back ..I have visited Northern Vietnam( Hanoi-Ha long Bay) when my 1st trip under tour group (
traveloguehalong-bay) &(
water-puppets-show-in-hanoi)
Do i like this Country?
Let me think....since past 10 years lots of Investor coming here for Investment and this country occupying coastal area in Indochina( refer the map to now better !!)..so why i'm here for working trip...today is Sunday( the right time to update this blog) ..So far i didn't explore this city much...only sightseeing by bike one round the whole "island"(Peninsular)
Out of my comfort zone?
Nobody like to become a stranger but sometimes we have to a risk and ready to learn and explore what life might brings...
In fact, i don't understand Vietnamese at all , travelling around with limited people can understand English is quite challenging..i have been to non-speaking English country before like Paris
( i studied basic France when i was in University) and Tokyo (but developed country slightly different with developing country)..but after all we must accept the fact that we have to become a "stranger" sometimes ..because we don't know when
" stranger can become a friend and friend after all become stranger"..it just matter of times ...
About this place??
Ba Ria-Vung Tau was established over 300 years ago with 3 villages.
Vung Tau: its name translates to "anchorage" derived from a time when European traders stopped here in the 14th & 15th centuries. The Portuguese called it SAINT JACQUES the French invaded & renamed it CAP SAINT JACQUES.Located 130km from SAIGON (Ho Chi Minh City).Popular as beach side getaway. The harmony between the natural landscape of the sea and mountains and the urban architecture as well as the famous ,scenic and cultural constructions has given the city great tourist appeal.

According to Legend, a WHALE washed up on VUNG TAUbeach over 100 ago.The carcass was so gargantuan that fishermen had to wait for the flesh to decompose before being able to pull it to shore and display the bones which came to symbolize the protector of the coast. |

LAST NIGHT I DREAMED OF PEACE..
20 June 1970:Suddenly I recall a line from a poem:Now immense sea and sky Oh, uncle, do you understand this child’s heart…No, I am no longer a child. I have grown up. I have passed trials of peril, but somehow, at this moment, I yearn deeply for Mom’s caring hand. Even the hand of a dear one or that of an acquaintance would be enough.Come to me, squeeze my hand, know my loneliness, and give me the love, the strength to prevail on the perilous road before me.
Excerpts from a Vietnamese doctor's wartime diaries Tram’s diaries begin in April 1968 when she’s 25 and several months into her first post-medical school job, chief physician at a field hospital in central Vietnam. The Tet Offensive is raging; though her hospital is a civilian clinic, she treats mainly soldiers. Sometimes she walks for miles through the rugged terrain to care for wounded fighters. Her duties also include training new health practitioners. The last entry is June 20, 1970, two days before she is killed by U.S. soldiers. |
