the GRAND OLD LADY.Miri's The first oil well !!!

    My recent trip to Miri is visiting One of the Sarawak's most important historical monument(The first Well in Miri).In fact , i never been to this  historical spot before since my last time in Miri was 10 years back where this area "Canada Hill" is still a scattered housing area .Therefore, my recent holiday in Miri with family & friends  giving me an opportunity to visit this Historical spot!!Here we go!!!

   The Grand Old Lady is the name of the first oil well(  struck oil on 22 December 1910)that was dug in Miri, Sarawak. It is located on top of Canada Hill overlooking Miri city. The Grand Old Lady was dug in 1972, and was able to yield 7 barrels of crude oil per day, every day, until 1972.   

It is not a frail figure of an old woman but Miri's Number 1 oil well, the first cable-tool oil well in the country, a 'mother' who milked a poor country to a prosperous nation.

The view from Bukit Telaga Minyak (Canada Hill)is rewarding because the panorama not only include the whole town comes but also the Miri-Brunei border, the offshore oilrigs and the refineries in nearby Lutong township.

This landmark is about 30 meters high, Located on top of Canada Hill overlooking Miri, it attracts locals to enjoy the scenery or jog on the well-designed path.
