Datin Sri Shahnaz A. Majid, the daughter-in-law of the Sarawak Chief Minister, is applying for a divorce and RM400mil in settlement from her estranged billionaire husband Datuk Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib.
Shahnaz, 48, claimed Wednesday that they had not had an intimate relationship for more than 10 years.
Shahnaz is the sister of jazz queen Datuk Sheila Majid.
She claimed that Mahmud, 48, who is a businessman, had caused her physical and mental torture.
She is seeking from the Lower Syariah Court for dissolution of her marriage under fasakh (her own application for divorce) on grounds that her husband had not carried out his marital duties.
In her statement of claim, she said she married Mahmud, the son of Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, on Jan 9, 1992 here and that they have a 17-year-son.
She said they had a good marriage for two years.
Syarie judge (Lower Syariah Court) Mohd Amirul Adam Ahmad set March 24 for mention after Shahnaz's lead counsel Dr Mohd Rafie Mohd Shafie applied to file affidavits over the divorce matter.
Dr Mohd Rafie told the judge that the defendant was not present in the divorce proceedings Wednesday.
He said the divorce application by his client had been delivered to Mahmud's house in Duta Nusantara in Jalan Sri Hartamas but could not be handed over to him personally.
He applied to the judge to issue an order allowing him to send a registered mail on the divorce matter as they could not get entry to the defendant's house.
The judge ordered Dr Mohd Rafie to file affidavits for his consideration over the matter.
