The Borneo Hornbill Festival is an event showcase with the objective of promoting the traditional Borneo Arts and Culture to all Malaysian and Tourist from all over the world. Borneo, knowingly as the third (3rd) largest island in the world, is consisting of East Malaysia Sabah and Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan.

Borneo is surrounded by the South China Sea to the north and northwest, the Sulu Sea to the northeast, the Celebes Sea and the Makassar Strait to the east and the Java Sea and Karimata Strait to the south. It is the largest island in the Malay archipelago, with the area of 743,330 square kilometers (287,000 sq mi).

The Borneo Island is divided into three countries; which are Brunei, Indonesia and East part of Malaysia that is Sabah & Sarawak. Borneo with its beautiful scenery attracts more than a thousand tourists each year. With its green & clean nature, Borneo became the most unique place for tourists to spend their holidays. The traditional arts and culture is really maintained and preserve by the locals as this will benefits them when tourists visited their places in terms of tremendous growth of tourism industry.

Borneo is very rich in biodiversity compared to many other areas. It is the centre of evolution and radiation of many endemic species of plants and animals. There are about 15,000 species of flowering plants and trees. Thus, there were 221 species of mammals and 420 species of resident birds. The Borneo rainforest is one of the only remaining natural habitats for the endangered Borneo Orang Utan. It is also an important refuge for many endemic forest species such as the Asian elephant, the Sumantran Rhinoceros, the Borneo Clouded Leopard and the Dayak Fruit Bat. It is known as one of the most biodiverse places on earth.

The Borneo handicraft is one of artistry handwork by the people of Borneo. Wooden carvings, pearls, necklace, bamboo, rattan, goat skin, brooch, rings, Pua Kumbu and many more handicrafts are originally made in Borneo. Besides that, Borneo has the colorful and beautiful traditional costumes. The costumes were unique because there were beads, and small coins are sewing on the clothes. With these costumes, the Borneo people were so proud to wear them and perform in front of the tourist, in any function even during celebration such as Harvest Festivals. There were different traditional dance by the people based on the ethnic and race. And what is more unique about Borneo, they dance with all the handicrafts and accessories that they made. Also, they use the bamboo to create the dancing atmosphere such as in Melanau traditional dance.

As to preserve the Borneo heritage, Persatuan Warisan Sarawak Kuala Lumpur(www.warisansarawak.net) is trying the best to maintain the existence of the heritage for locals and tourist viewing, and have the chance to experience it.
