Inaugural Sarawak Food Festival-EXOTIC SARAWAK(8th-27th Nov 2011) at Makan Kitchen.

KUALA LUMPUR: Makan Kitchen, the signature Malaysian restaurant of DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, will be staging its inaugural Sarawak festival from Nov 8 to 27.
All out to present an Exotic Sarawak experience, the restaurant has invited two chefs from Sarawak to prepare an authentic spread.

During the festival, one can also expect colourful cultural performances and opportunities to learn about unique Sarawakian crafts.

To ensure authenticity of the dishes on the spread, two guest chefs from Borneo Convention Centre Kuching will join the restaurant team.
Chef Antija Dawen and Chef Binyas Suem, who are both Bidayuh, will prepare some 30 traditional specialities from their family-guarded recipes.

Some of the highlights include nang duah kian pansoh (seafood with local spices cooked in bamboo), nasi ujan (Sarawak-style rainbow rice), koming kari (Bidayuh-style lamb curry with potato) and nang galah rebus serai (fresh water prawns cooked with lemongrass).
The spread will also include special Sarawakian appetisers, dips and a Sarawak noodle counter serving the popular laksa Sarawak, kolo mee and mee belacan.

The promotion is available for lunch on weekdays and high tea on weekends at RM59++ per adult, while dinner is at RM89++ per adult.

The price is inclusive of a Jom Lepak tea that is a Sarwakian favourite. Children aged below 12 years will be charged at half-price for the buffet.

During the festival, Makan Kitchen is also running a Jom Sarawak offer from Mondays till Thursdays, where you can receive a 30 per cent discount if one person in your group is Sarawakian.

While the two guest chefs are in town, they will also conduct a one-day cooking class on Nov 19. The afternoon session priced at RM69++ is inclusive of a cooking class featuring three Sarawakian dishes, a high tea and a Makan Kitchen apron. The class is reserved for 20 participants.

During the promotion, the restaurant will also feature cultural performances over dinner on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Working with the Persatuan Warisan Sarawak Kuala Lumpur, dancers in full traditional costume will perform native dances from the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu cultures. Crafts on display during the festival include pua kumbu, Sarawak beads, rattan basket, necklace and traditional costumes.
