A Miri senator  (Senator Doris Sophia Brodie )makes history as the 1st Sarawakian and Iban woman to be appointed Senate Deputy President in Malaysia.

Before taking the plunge into politics, Doris gained more than two decades of experience in the corporate world, spending 15 years at Shell Sarawak before setting up her own oil and gas company, Dej-Tech Sdn Bhd, in 1995.

Doris, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak women's wing chief, says she spends most of her time reaching out to those living in Sarawak's rural areas when she is not carrying out her senate duties in Parliament.

Her passion for politics is driven by her hope that no one would be left out in the country's development process.

“Whatever we do and say, it has to come from the heart. Be honest and sincere as our actions will come back to us. That's my principle in life.-Senator Doris Sophia Brodie
